Who We Are

Craig Collins, Principal Consultant

Craig Collins has twenty-two years' experience in leader development as a workshop facilitator and course designer. Through formal training and one-on-one coaching, he assists managers to improve their interpersonal, communication, leadership and thinking skills. He is particularly interested in helping managers to develop their ability to provide leadership in a multicultural context and in assisting technically oriented managers to develop a well-rounded leadership profile.

His initial training as an engineer, followed by graduate work in the behavioral sciences, makes him keenly aware of the frustrations experienced by many technical managers attempting to adopt a more people-oriented approach. It gives him great personal satisfaction to assist others to reframe and navigate this career challenge.

Craig began his business career as a manager with John Deere with assignments in the US, Europe and the Middle East. Later he spent six years as Associate Director of the Middle East Management Centre (an affiliate of Management Centre Europe and the American Management Association). In this role, he was responsible for business development, managing the delivery of in-company training, and the marketing and delivery of public courses. During this period, he also gained experience as a course leader and facilitator.

In 1992, Craig established Orion International, a global network of management and organizational development professionals. Craig and his associates work with organizations to clarify the learning needs of managers and professionals and to address them through relevant experiential programs. In addition, they offer coaching to individuals and teams.

Craig received his undergraduate degree from Rice University (USA) in Electrical Engineering and German and was awarded a grant for a year's graduate study at the University of Cologne. Following four years' service as a U.S. naval officer (including two years based in Greece), he attended joint MBA programs at Southern Methodist University and the American Graduate School of International Management ("Thunderbird") in Phoenix.

Craig is also a member of the European faculty of the Center for Creative Leadership.

A leader is a person who must take special responsibility for what's going on inside him or her self, inside his or her consciousness, lest the act of leadership create more harm than good.
